Getting All Touristy Again
After staying in the US for a couple of months, I was expecting to somehow lose the tourist-y feeling eventually. I stopped converting my purchases into peso amounts, stopped buying souvenirs, and stopped taking pictures. I didn't need to go crazy over a hectic schedule of visiting parks, malls and whatever sightseeing stuff, because I think I have more than enough time (maybe until the age where I can't make it to the restroom in time :)) to see it anyway. I don't know if it's something to be happy or sad about, but I'm back to my regular rituals, the usual places I'd like to go to, the usual activities I'd like to engage in.
And then we decided to visit Ricio's family in Boston.
Ricio always told me how different Boston looks, as compared to the other states we've visited. Each time we were in a new state, I'd always ask him what he thought about the place, and he'd always say "It's okay." He wasn't getting paranoid or disappointed, but neither was he gleaming with excitement. And when I'd ask him to compare it with Boston, he's always say "I love Boston, but you have to see it for yourself so you'll know what I mean." And so I left it at that.
As we were driving along the freeway that goes through Connecticut and Massachusetts, I was beginning to notice the more refreshing surroundings. After a three and a half hour drive, we finally made it to one of the towns, where his sister lives. I started to smile and stare in awe at the buildings and houses. Such a quaint and beautiful town. I was beginning to feel that I was going to be pleasantly surprised.
After a few hours, we decided to drive to Boston. And I just fell in love with the place.
I love red bricks and the way the churches were built. I love the whole scenery, how the shopping outlets blended in with the old buildings without looking like an eye sore. I love the parks, how well kept they are. I was loving everything about the city, the towns - just everything.
Just when I thought I'd never feel like a tourist again in the States - I started buying a few souvenirs and had some pictures taken (thanks to Kat, who was so kind enough to take our pictures and give us the grand tour around the city). It's that feeling of wanting everything you see to be captured in your memory.
I managed to take some pictures as well - I'm not much of an expert photographer, but it'll help me refresh my memory when I'm old and gray.

It was a short, but a worth-every-minute vacation with Ricio's family. From the sights to the food, to the quality time spent with them - it was so worth it. We went home, 10 pounds heavier, but 20 times happier. :)
Only three and a half hours away from our home. Love it!
